Good Trouble Bourbon Review
SHARE WITH: Fans of light-bodied whiskies.
WORTH THE PRICE: Given that this is made at Green River Distilling, and GR’s 90-proof releases are only $40 and solid; this is a hard no.
BOTTLE, BAR OR BUST: Bar.
OVERALL: If you’re curious, Good Trouble Bourbon’s brand story says the whiskey “was inspired by the brand owner’s (Dee M. Robinson) vision to spur social change through great bourbon and good conversations while you enjoy it. Good Trouble honors those who bravely speak up for good, disrupt the status quo and the conversations that arise from these actions and hopefully inspires people to take action in any way they can to find the good within themselves and let it light the way.” If you want to read the rest, click here.
The whiskey is light on the nose and not overly complex, which belies its high rye content. Still, there are pleasant aromas to savor. Honey, cherry blossom, maple syrup and toasted oak lead the way with some pleasant powdered donut notes bringing up the rear.
It’s even lighter on the palate, drinking well below its 92 proof. The mouthfeel is fairly lean, but a couple of sips delivers up simple flavors of graham cracker, honey, oak and a litt1le lemon curd. Again, for a 21% rye content, I expected more herbal and spice components, but they’re not there. Based on other whiskies made and aged by Green River, more time in the barrel would surely improve this bourbon.
