While summer is in its twilight stage (sad face), this means September is approaching. Which means National Bourbon Heritage Month is approaching. Which means an onslaught of special releases are on the horizon! Certainly in that coveted spectrum is the 2024 Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch.

Non-chill filtered and bottled at 108.2 proof, the 2024 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon features four hand-selected batches aged 12 to 20 years. Chosen from Four Roses’ 10 distinct bourbon recipes, this year’s limited edition blend is composed of a 12-year-old bourbon from the OBSV recipe, a 15-year-old OESK, a 16-year-old OESF, and a 20-year-old OBSV. This release is the 17th annual in the Limited Edition Small Batch collection.

What is “OESF” and “OBSV”? Four Roses Recipe Decoding

Wait, so what does OESF and OBSV even mean? Four Roses has 2 different mashbills, “B” and “E”, and five different yeast strains (V,K,O,Q,F). Thus creating 10 different possible recipes. Both mashbills have rye as the secondary grain. Mashbill B has 35% rye while Mashbill E has 20% rye. The first letter is always “O” designating distillation at Four Roses. The third letter is always “S”, designating “straight whiskey”.

PRICING & AVAILABILITY: This year, Four Roses will distribute approximately 16,680, 750ml limited edition bottles in the United States at a suggested retail price of $220. Bourbon fans will have a chance to purchase their bottle at the Four Roses Distillery Visitor Center in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky or at the Visitor Center at Four Roses Warehouse & Bottling Facility in Cox’s Creek, Kentucky starting on September 14. The 2024 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon will also roll out to select retailers across the country starting this September.
