Green River Full Proof Bourbon Review
SHARE WITH: Whether you’re drinking it solo while watching TV or sharing it with friends around the campfire, you can’t go wrong with this bottle. It’s rich and full-bodied–perfect for those who like bourbon and don’t get hung up on age statements, warehouse/rick placement or weird finishing methods.
WORTH THE PRICE: I’m thrilled Green River brought this full proof version to market so people could experience Green River at a higher-proof point without having to seek out limited private single barrel selections. Without question, this bottle is worth every penny of the $49.99 MSRP. It offers an outstanding balance of quality and affordability, making it an excellent value on ita own, and an outstanding value when compared to many of the other brand expressions coming to market at higher price points.
BOTTLE, BAR OR BUST: Hands-down, Green River Full Proof bourbon gets a bottle rating from me. With so many other bourbons coming to market at super high price points that fail to deliver on a daily drinking experience, Green River sets itself apart by keeping the price reasonable and the whiskey infinitely drinkable.
OVERALL: Green River Cask Full Proof Bourbon’s nose is full of warm spice notes, leaning into baking spices rather than black pepper. A hint of mint, indicative of the high-rye mash bill, is complemented by rich vanilla and caramel. The palate delivers solid cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel notes, along with a hint of light leather. But just like with the original 90-proof release, it’s the candied fruit notes adding brightness and sweetness to the mix, which kept me returning for another sip. The finish is long and lingering, with the baking spices prominently appearing on the fade-out.
The release of Green River Full Proof Bourbon once again proves that it is truly, “the whiskey without regrets.”
Green River Full Proof is a blend of five-to-seven-year barrels selected from curated areas of Green River’s Owensboro tile warehouses and feature the same mash bill as Green River Kentucky Straight Bourbon. These original tile warehouses maintain both warm and cool temperatures, yielding unique proof variation and liquid maturation. The result is a pure expression offering a robust flavor profile which preserves the barrel character while bringing massive flavor to the palate.
The high rye percentage gives it a robust backbone of spice, sweetened and softened by corn and barley to produce. Full of warming spice, vanilla, caramel and chocolate-coated peppermints, Green River Full Proof offers aromatic notes of cinnamon, dried cherry and light leather. Deep golden amber in color, is weighty on the palate and closes with a lingering, rich mouthfeel.
Presented at a variable batch-proof, the initial batch is bottled at 117.3 proof (58.65% ABV). This everyday product will be available for a suggested price of $49.99.
Full Proof joins Green River’s lauded profile of Bourbon, Wheated Bourbon, and Rye. Previously, full-proof single barrels were only available for purchase by the barrel.
