STEVE’S NOTES

SHARE WITH: Any whiskey lover.

WORTH THE PRICE: Maybe.

BOTTLE, BAR OR BUST: Bottle.

OVERALL: This is a big, well-aged, well-blended bourbon that’s bold on the nose and weighty on the palate. Toffee rolls easily from the glass alongside spring flowers and confectioner’s sugar. It’s a whiskey you’ll want to sniff idly, patiently and perhaps privately, for several minutes.

The palate backs up the nose with bitter chocolate, milk chocolate, honey, cooked cherries and Demerara syrup. Brown sugar and baking spices collide and reemerge independently to form a fantastic, warm finish. Turn off the TV and read a book with this one. That’s the pace at which you’ll want to drink it neat.

I’m not in a rush to buy a $140 bottle of whiskey too often, but while I think this is priced a little high, I wouldn’t regret the purchase. It’s a whiskey that keeps on giving, rolling out robust wave after wave of flavor even with modest sips. I’m not a cigar smoker, but I’m betting this would pair exceptionally well with a stick. For dessert, pair it with anything deeply chocolatey or dense, like a well-made oatmeal cookie.

BRAND NOTES

NOSE: The nose is reminiscent of a gourmet candy shop with confectionary notes of toffee, fudge, fruit cake, and honeycomb combining to create brilliant bouquet of aromas.

PALATE: Opulent flavors of black cherry, bananas foster, and caramelized sugar are followed by charred oak and cigar box, which exhibit the extended aging of the blend.

FINISH: Rich black cherry flavor remains from the palate and carries to the end of an ever-enduring finish, complemented by the appearance of roasted nuts, coffee, and chamomile tea.
