NEW DISTILLERY: $143.7 Million Investment Earmarked for Eastern Kentucky – “Eastern Light Distilling”
Big news. Big money. $143.7 million distillery investment has been announced for the eastern Kentucky’s Rowan County area.
THE NAME: “Eastern Light Distilling”.
WHO’S BEHIND IT? Two distilling industry veterans who are currently with Louisville’s Peerless Distilling – Master Distiller Caleb Kilburn and COO Cordell Lawrence Jr. Cordell will be CEO of Eastern Light Distilling.
LOCATION? Rowan County, Kentucky. About an hour east of Lexington.
THE MISSION: Kickstart the craft distilling movement in Eastern Kentucky as Eastern Light Distilling will focus heavily on being a CUSTOM CONTRACT DISTILLERY.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear noted the new development is projected to create at least 50 new good paying jobs with an hourly wage of $33 plus benefits.
Per the Governor’s office press release: Eastern Light Distilling is introducing an innovative new concept that will grow the state’s signature bourbon industry in Eastern Kentucky while supporting craft bourbon makers as a custom contract distiller. The locally owned venture is led by Kentucky bourbon industry veterans, including Chief Executive Officer Cordell Lawrence and Caleb Kilburn, an internationally recognized master distiller.
“Eastern Light is the culmination of a lifelong dream to see our state’s signature bourbon industry in my home of Eastern Kentucky,” Kilburn said.
