The 32nd episode of the Bourbon & Banter podcast – Back in the Saddle Again – is now available for your listening and drinking pleasure. Look, we know we’ve been away for a while. Why? We tell you right up top about Bob’s sequestering that forced us to lay low for the first part of the year. The South Africans are likely relieved that Bob is back on the air though…listen to find out why.
Since we’ve last seen everyone, we’ve been working on a lot of things under the hood of Bourbon & Banter. New website…BAM! New community…BAM! We have transitioned our Bourbon & Banter Community to the Book of Faces, so if you were part of our previous community, sign up for the new group here. It allows us to communicate in real-time with no space for all the dreaded things that many groups are bogged down with like crotch shots and photos of 18 unopened bottles of whatever Buffalo Trace expression someone cares too much about to drink.
The Bourbon & Banter Single Barrel Club still has a few bottles left of the fantastic releases we secured in 2022. If you haven’t signed up to be a member of the community or the single barrel club, we urge you to do so. The barrels we’ve selected are unique compared to regularly available. As a reminder, we are also able to ship NATIONWIDE now for a flat rate that’s beyond reasonable.
Since we’ve been gone, the podcast hit the three-year mark, making us officially older than most of the craft whiskey out there.
The WHISKEY NEWS kicks off with Buffalo Trace pretending you stand a chance of getting a single barrel of one of their products in their next Single Barrel Select drawing. They’re even going to live stream it from the Sazerac House in New Orleans, so you can be disappointed in real-time.
Other news items recent include a study that heavy drinkers really can’t handle their liquor, and Jack Daniel’s wins one over the furry companions of America. After over a decade of being asked about it, Four Roses has finally announced the opportunity to taste all ten of their historic recipes with a new tasting experience that will be released in select states and at their locations.
Darwin’s theory plays out in China when a social media influencer died less than 12 hours after consuming seven bottles of Baijiu, known as ‘Chinese vodka’, during a live stream on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok. Really? So now we know…stick with six bottles.
NEW RELEASES in the bourbon and whiskey world include a 10+ year old Heaven’s Door Straight Rye Whiskey and a Frey Ranch Farm Strength Uncut Bourbon. Lost Lantern declares 2023 the Summer of Bourbon, showcasing their blended bourbons, available in California, New York, Kentucky, and…Alberta, Canada. Okay, sure.
We also look at new wheated bourbon from the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in downtown Lousiville, Brush Creek Distillery’s new Heroes Edition Straight Bourbon, and an insanely priced Rare Hare Spirits bottling of a 30-year old Canadian Whiskey.
The Bourbon and Banter FUCKS team (forensic under-cover knowledge seekers) have uncovered the next line extension from Jefferson’s, which will surely bring a SPOOKY vibe to your next bourbon gathering. Let’s just say the hills are NOT alive with the sound of bourbon…or something like that.
Pops takes Eric Church’s new Whiskey JYPSI for a spin, and there’s a surprising outcome here, especially considering our typical thoughts on celebrity whiskies. If you can afford it, should you grab a bottle? Listen to find out Pops’ thoughts.
We close the episode with the most honest segment in all of bourbon podcasting…BOURBON BULLSHIT. If there’s one thing the bourbon world needs, it’s definitely another Weller Bourbon. You know, since it’s so plentiful everywhere to begin with. Wanna guess our thoughts?
Since we last saw everyone, the Ascot Awards have come and gone, prompting the question: who didn’t win an Ascot Award? With over HALF A MILLION DOLLARS IN ENTRY FEES COLLECTED, around 73% of the entrants received a medal ranking. Really? REALLY? REALLY?!?!?!?!!!!!!
We also have an update on Mystic Galactic bourbon, a bullshit encounter of the worst kind we spoke about the last time we recorded the podcast. To go where stupidity will allow, we guess….
As the most honest podcast in bourbon, we don’t pull any punches, and we tell it as we see it.
If you’ve been searching for a bourbon podcast that provides honest commentary, to-the-point information, and doesn’t take itself too seriously – welcome home!
